The MMBA will be continuing the time-honored tradition of the New Year’s Day “race,” chili potluck, and tacky trophy awards on Tuesday, January 1st, 2019 at the Point San Pablo Yacht Club. As in years past, an informal race will start off Clipper Cove at 11:00 am. The course will be from the port or starboard side of the “committee boat” to the finish at Pt. San Pablo YC’s dock.
It’s always a good time! And its a great way to begin the year by hanging out the sails and hanging out with friends. Boats are encouraged to join at any time after 11:00 and the only goal is to arrive at Pt. San Pablo YC by 2:00 pm for the tacky trophy exchange and some good food and adult beverages.
Tacky trophies are a good way to re-gift any white elephant gifts you may have received from well-meaning relatives or friends. The boat finishing DFL gives a trophy to the boat that finished ahead of it and that boat gives a trophy to the next finisher and so on until the “winner” gets his/hers. The last boat to finish gets the grand prize trophy, from the first place winner. Some real treasures have surfaced over the years, and like a bad penny they keep coming back.
All asphalt cruisers are welcome to come earlier around noon to warm up the kitchen and bar.
This will be a “free for all” potluck with no dish assignments. So bring enough for you, your crew, and some extra to share.
